Project
The Rotterdam School of Management and the TU Delft have started a new program to train the future leaders of the energy transition from a holistic and multidisciplinary perspective. This project was initiated by the Energy Transition Fund, in which 15 alumni have joined forces at the initiative of Eelco Hoekstra and Bastiaan Vaandrager.
After graduating in economics at the Erasmus University Rotterdam, Eelco Hoekstra spent much of his life working in energy. He now dedicates his expertise and knowledge to the Energy Transition Fund. “We are at the eve of a large transformation in our energy systems”, Hoekstra says.
“Technology is improving exponentially. This will drastically change how we consume and produce energy, with economic, legal, and geopolitical consequences. Meanwhile, we are approaching our planet’s boundaries. The next generation needs to understand both the opportunities and the threats that these changes pose.”

Future leaders of the energy transition
“There is so much knowledge about all the elements needed to face these challenges, but we need to bring those sciences together. That starts with education. We want tomorrow’s leaders of the energy transition to know about economics, leadership, and technology.” With this holistic approach, the dream of the Energy Transition Fund is to a secure a just and sustainable energy future for as many people on earth as possible.
